Beijing’s favorite Cheeky Monkey Emcees Singaporean Charity Event for Lunar New Year

Beijing’s favorite Cheeky Monkey Emcees Singaporean Charity Event for Lunar New Year Well, it is rather cheeky of me to call myself Beijing’s “favorite” of anything, but then again, I am a Cheeky Monkey, so I guess it’s just to be expected of me Something to be less expected of me is that this was [...]

I know why the caged purse sings…

… because its in a Louis Vuitton shop in Singapore Due to all the solo travel I tend to do, I’ve become an expert with self-photography. I’m staying at the Mandarin Orchard, and so spent most of the day today wandering around on Orchard Road. I’m loving Singapore thus far, especially the beautiful tree-lined roads. [...]

Empire State of Mind

Back in lovely New York City for a painfully short duration (as per usual). In the last six months I’ve been in NYC no less than 8 times, though never for even two days in a row. Which of course most of the time means I’m getting over travel fatigue and not really able to [...]

Celebrating Mardi Gras in State College (with jazz!)

Last night I was happy to have a good excuse to fight off jetlag and go with my mom to the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour at the Eisenhower Auditorium on the PSU campus. It was a *fantastic* concert, and we had great seats! One of my mom’s friends hooked us up with great seats [...]

Elyse and her favorite new Cheeky Monkey: little Toby

For Chunjie I declined the barrage of fantastic homemade jiaozi and insomniatic nights of fireworks in exchange for a visit with my brand new baby nephew, Toby. While still a wee bit too young to be terribly amusing, I was totally enthralled with him nonetheless. Ooh-ooh, and he has the bestest nickname in the whole [...]

From America with Love: Happy Valentine’s Day

This year Valentine’s Day (and my wonderful college roomie Erin’s Bday) fell on the same day as 初一 the first day of the Year of the Tiger. Overall, the only impact I really felt over this was the random text messages combining the two holidays from my friends in China (which I have yet to [...]

Happy Year of the Tiger!!! :)

This year is the first time in 6 years that I haven’t spent Chunjie in Beijing. This is both a relief and a regret, as I’m seriously got a hankering for some delicious jiaozi, but as the Chinese restaurants in America make dumplings that are less than delicious. And, while I am not missing the [...]
