Cheeky Monkey’s fav new Beijing pizza place: La Pizza

So today was a fantastic (and fantastically busy) day, the highlight of which was the fact that someone in the EU decided to name Neapolitan pizza a cultural treasure, so La Pizza was giving away free pizza and beer at their Sanlitun shop. I stopped by in the hopes of a slice of pizza for [...]

I went to the Beijing Car Expo earlier today and got to play with some *very* pretty cars for my Laowai Kandian spinoff program Laowai Kanche (yay Chinese puns). My only complaint is that I didn’t actually get a chance to drive any of these cars (sigh). Driving, especially on country roads in America, is [...]

tango with Maserati in purple… a picture from rehearsals

its going to be an amazing show… (and the car looks great, too!). This is one of the tango girls (dancing with the lovely Qiao Qiao) and I caught her in mid-dance, it’s amazing how still she was, while having her limbs still moving in time with the music — Santa Maria by the Gotan [...]

As you may have already noticed, I am a big foodie and perhaps due in part to the MLB’s “Day at the Ballpark” event a couple weeks ago, one of my recent obsessions has been a quality hot dog. I’m not sure if its just the sauerkraut that’s got me [...]

“There was a star danced, and under that was I born.”

(thats Shakespeare’s quote, by the way, I won’t try to take credit, but I simply thought it was too perfect for the happy-dance vibes I’m feeling right now) Despite the multitude of stresses in my life right now (and the nasty cold I’m suffering through) I’m having a pretty good time. You’d think that spending [...]

Hosting a Chinese Wedding in Nanjing

So I had the pleasure of hosting my first Chinese wedding the other day in Nanjing, China. It was also incidentally my first trip to Nanjing, though I was ultimately only in town for less than 24 hours altogether. Chinese weddings are very different from Western weddings, [...]

A big 谢谢 to Plastered for sponsoring CMT Improv’s shirts!

For the ShiFen Festival, Plastered 8 T-Shirts was kind enough to sponsor the Cheeky Monkey Improv troupe and hook us up with these awesome lucky fish T-shirts for our shows. After our first Improv show earlier this month at Obiwan, we were a bit beer-happy at the subway station and decided to express our gratitude [...]

Having fun choreographing for the Maserati show

Cheeky Monkey has been contracted to direct and choreograph the Beijing unveiling of Maserati’s sexy new convertible the GranCabio. There’s a particular joy and pain with corporate events, the joy being that you don’t have any of the stress of marketing a theatrical production, the pain being that you have to worry about the client’s [...]

Random photos from Carmen 卡门 – Gypsy style Tablediving!

So my life has recently been eaten up by the most amazingly fun and hardcore project: Carmen. The Opera. Yes, an opera. Its like a play, a musical, dance and ginormous set design all thrown into one. Opera is kind of like normal theater on steroids. Its awesome. Its crazy. Its stressful. And beautiful. [...]
