ShiFen Theater Festival 2010 : GREEN ENERGY

Since 2006, Cheeky Monkey Theater, Beijing’s multicultural dramatists group, has tackled the subjects of sexuality, economic disparity, and the madness in the things that get lost in translation. Now, with the Year of the Tiger soon approaching, Cheeky Monkey will be putting on a performance that puts the modern world’s newly adopted “Green Lifestyle” under the spotlight.

On February 6th, edgy theater troupes with an appetite for destruction and protection will be performing a free show at the Penghao Theater. Under the evening’s theme of “green energy,” artists from China, America, Austria, Egypt, and many other nations will perform in a variety of acts, all ten minutes or less. From theater to singing, avante garde to slapstick, Cheeky Monkey’s ShiFen Festival once again creates overwhelming spectacle, while remaining thought provoking and heartfelt.

Under the direction of Beijing’s favorite theater maven Elyse Ribbons, there will be amazing performances by artists such as Ines Brunn, Simon Xu, Qiaoqiao and Shanshan, Mr Magic, the Original Chinese Cast of RENT, James Chen, Anna Chovanec, Rebecca Parr, Aaron Kroeber and Dana Novales. Writers include David Jacobi, Ben Thompson, Ian Kent, Elyse Ribbons, and of course Shakespeare.

And of course none of this would be possible without the support of Beijing’s business community. Sponsors include Global Times, Capital M, Plastered 8, Fubar, Kocoon Spa, China Travel 2.0, The Wine Republic, Greening the Beige, Cando360.com, and of course the wonderful folks at Penghao Theater.

Cheeky Monkey asks you to make your way to the Penghao Theater this Saturday for what is sure to be a thrilling, dramatic (but still rather classy and informative) night.
